Entry #18: Start Where You Are

Dear Aspiring Mama,

Let’s imagine you’re planning a trip to Hawaii.

You’re about to book flights.

You’ve chosen the island you wish to visit and entered the airport at which you’ll arrive: Kahului Airport in Maui.

Now imagine that you left the departing airport blank and left it up to the airline to figure out your itinerary without this key piece of information.

How long do you think it would take you to get to Maui?

If you guessed, forever or never you’re correct.

ENTER YOUR STARTING LOCATION

You see, to get where you want to go, you must clearly identify your starting point. There is simply no other way around it, unless you are ok with:

  1. Staying put
  2. Getting lost
  3. Wandering and hoping you’ll eventually get there.

There is nothing wrong with any of these options.

But if you’re ready to answer the call to motherhood. To truly embrace your desire and live into the full expression of what you are called to, then you must choose to stand proudly where you are right now so that we can create the best itinerary for you!

DETOURS & CONNECTIONS ARE PART OF THE FUN!

And just like booking flights, there may be direct flights, but more often than not, you should expect connecting flights, possible delays, and definitely choose premium seating or first class—because connections and delays are way more fun when there is more leg room and free champagne!

Do you see where I am going with this?

You’ve entered your desired destination—the dream you wrote out from the previous posts. (Read Declare Your Dream here & How To Overcome Resistance here)

The time has now come to identify your starting point, as in: where you are in life right now.

EXERCISE: DESCRIBE WHERE YOU ARE

Write the story of your life as it is. Pen to paper. 15-20minutes.

Write the facts and important details about your life. As if you were writing a journal entry and entering them into the Universe’s GPS.

Be specific. Start with the general demographics to get you going: your name, age, relationship status, where you live, what you are doing the moment you are writing it out. From there, add details about how you feel and any pertinent facts that would give me a good idea of what is happening in your world and where you are in it.

The intention is for you to get crystal clear about where you are in life.

Imagine you were telling a five year old.

Be concise and precise such that they could understand. Or, if your life feels like you’ve swerved off the road and into a ditch, imagine you were calling the towing service. They need to know where you are exactly in order to send someone over to pull your car (aka you) out of there, and get you back on the road.

I’m the five year old and tow delivery service in one.

Look at your life straight in the eyes. Get a clear image of it so that we can clearly identify your starting point. Because you can’t start from anywhere else—no matter how much you wish you could (we’ll get to that in a minute).

With love & light,

Melissa
