Dear Aspiring Mama, I am excited to dive into the 6th and final Fundamental Principle for your journey to motherhood: Awaken The Feminine.

I feel calm, peaceful: serene. Moments ago my eyes were closed. This chair, where I have nursed Alicia since she was born, was reclined all the way back, supporting me as I rested for a few minutes. A long deep breath signalled that I was complete, and I opened my eyes with less than 20seconds left on the timer.

I came close to ignoring the nudge to recharge before writing today. However, as I swayed to the beat of the drums of this gorgeous piece of Native music: The Sacred Feminine Within Songs of Native Women , I could feel the voice of my nurturing side whisper:

“Slow down. Take the time to rest. There is no rush.”

And just as I would have while pregnant, I unapologetically listened and followed the guidance of the voice within that wants the best for me. The voice of the Divine Feminine.

AWAKEN THE DIVINE/SACRED FEMININE

Today, we crank up the volume of that voice.

Just as you were invited to Welcome Divine Guidance in Principle #5, we are now about to awaken the divine within you because your journey to and through motherhood requires that you allow the feminine to awaken, to rise, to lead the way by becoming the way.

The feminine is:

  • Rich, abundant, and fertile.
  • Joyous, nurturing, and intuitive.

The feminine is:

  • Generous, community oriented, and collaborative.
  • Expressed and attentive.
  • Supportive and a stand for respect.

Loving and fierce. Tender and strong. Curious and courageous. Yet you cannot define as either this or that, as she is fluid within her wholeness. Her holiness.

She swings gracefully to the rhythm of the divine. Displaying authenticity effortlessly.

This energy and way of being is what drives creation in nature and it lives within you.

When the feminine is awakened, you are fluid with life and honour boundaries to protect this sacred flow—just as the river provides the bank for its waters to go where and how they need to.

You create from within rather than external sources. Your actions are attractive as you open, position yourself where you can be seen, and call in what is aligned while ruthlessly declining what is not.

As you awaken the feminine and restore balance where needed, you will also pave the way for the masculine to find its place and fulfill its role in the creation of motherhood.

Untamed Quote, Part of a woman freeing herself

BOTH THE FEMININE AND MASCULINE ARE DIVINE

Divine & Wounded Feminine & Masculine Graphic

Within all of us lives both of these energies. This work is not a question of one being better than the other but rather letting each play their part.

There are creations that require the masculine energy to lead the way, but when it comes to motherhood, the feminine sets the stage.

Leading a harmonious life requires us to dance with both of these energies. To let each take their turn in leading and expressing. Dancing together or solo depending on the music of our lives. In preparation for motherhood, the dance floor is yours. The masculine gives you plenty of space to flow and let your feminine rise, admiring your movement, momentum, and joining you for the dance at the perfect time.

Step onto the dance floor. It is your turn to dance.

THE OUT OF BALANCE MASCULINE

If you have been living your life with the masculine leading in too many areas, this may feel uncomfortable, confronting, or trigger resistance.

You are not alone.

Up until this point in history, we have been living in a society predominately led by the out of balance masculine, aka the patriarchy. Its energy is competitive, controlling, greedy, and aggressive.

THE WOMEN BEFORE US FOUGHT TO GET US HERE

In order for women to begin the process of restoring the balance, our grandmothers and mothers bravely stepped into the ring and catalyzed change. Their fierce feminine energy gave them the courage to do so, however in order to bring us where we are today, they had to hide it behind a mask of masculinity and play the game according to the patriarchy’s rules.

My beautiful grandmother: Patricia Margaret Lippert. She watches over me. She was loving, she was fierce. Were she alive today, she would move mountains. I dedicate this work to her and all the strong women who came before me.

WE WERE BORN TO CONTINUE THEIR WORK

Thanks to their efforts, you and I have been given several of the same opportunities as men, namely in education and career choices.

We had to continue the work the women before us started and were urged to continue playing a man’s game without even knowing it. And somewhere along the way the feminine courage that had sparked the movement died replaced by an out of balance in energies.

We were encouraged to “Dream BIG!” because “YOU can do whatever you want when you grow up.” (As long as it was on the same field as the boys.)

When telling others that you wanted to have a loving relationship and create a family of your own one day, that wasn’t thinking BIG enough.

“Don’t worry about that” they said.

“Focus on your education. Get a good job. The rest will work itself out.”

Being a good little girl, you didn’t question or doubt. You believed what you were promised. You followed the plan. Did as you were told. Worked hard, got good grades, crossed your legs, hid your period, and pursued that career while pretending that it was what you truly wanted and that you didn’t need a man or anyone to help you.

You’ve probably done well for yourself without ever being asked how you felt about it all. You work hard for your money. Donna Sommer’s anthem starts playing in your head:

She works hard for the money

So hard for it, honey

She works hard for the money

So you better treat her right

CREATING A NEW WORLD

At some point something happened. Around us and within us. The voice inside started to whisper a little louder. We started to question if what we were promised and told growing up made any sense. It has become evident that it no longer does.

You and I are part of a new age of women creating a new world.

Women are removing their masks. Thanks to those before us we can be on the field and show our true colours. Start playing by our own rules, on our own field, and in turn leave room for everyone to play, for integrity to be restored and thus, both the feminine and masculine the opportunity to be in balance.

IT IS TIME TO HARMONIZE

What tends to happen whenever a pendulum swings to an extreme, is that it swings in the other direction before slowing down and finding its centre. In this case, the out of balance feminine, who in ignoring boundaries, giving too much of herself away, staying quiet, enabling bad behaviour, and aiming to please is depleted, weak, overly sensitive, and drained. The time has come to harmonize.

Tomorrow I will provide you with practices, ideas, and resources so you can awaken, connect, and restore your sacred feminine—which in turn will support you in restoring the masculine within and without.

For now, take some time to notice what this may be bringing up. We’ve just given permission to your feminine voice to speak, listen. Be gentle with what comes up.

With love,

Melissa
