PART II: Staying Sane During A Pandemic – MOVE YOUR BODY

Sharing Is Caring!

Today we talk about movement!
My trustee sidekick, Bali, is always up for moving and has accompanied me throughout my pregnancy on walks, cross-country skiing outings, snowshoeing, and on my yoga mat too! He’s behind you during this time and whenever you feel down, think of his cute face and you’ll feel better stat!

In these challenging times we must stay strong and taking care of our physical and mental well-being is a necessity. Not only for yourself, but now more than ever, for the well-being of others.

Therefore today it’s time to look at how you are moving your body and taking care of it!

And since you read yesterday’s email on the importance of getting dressed and self-care, you are probably already fired up, yes?! If not, go read Part I here.

Now, let’s get to Part II: Move Your Body

Enjoy this yoga class to boost your innate vitality and get those good vibes flowing!

Move Your Body

“I’m gonna get so fit!”

Was this what you thought when all of this started?

Were you motived to get back to a workout routine, do yoga first thing in the morning, and start tracking your progress with selfies?

Weeks in, does it feel like a struggle to lace up your shoes and walk to the grocery store?

Don’t be shy or feel ashamed. The less we do, the less we want to do.

However, you can get back on the bandwagon. The most important step is the first one. So take it now! You’ll build momentum from there.

Reset your movement routine and adapt to the current circumstances. Here’s how:

Go for a 30min power walk outside: I am aware that there are places in the world where going outside for walks has been stopped to prevent the spread of the virus, we in Canada and the US are still fortunate enough to be given the chance to get some fresh air. I know it can feel unnerving to go for a walk, but if you follow the health recommendations provided by the government. The movement and fresh air will do your mental and physical health some good!

Dance! Can’t go outside or don’t feel comfortable enough to? Then crank up your favourite tunes and just let it rip! Alex and I have been having spontaneous dance parties regularly—you should see his moonwalk and my air guitar skills! Sometimes all it takes is one song to get you back into a good groove!

Set a (realistic) baseline: You may be an all-or-nothing type of person and feel that if you’re not working out 5x/week that you may as well not workout at all. But be honest, is this working for you? Do you need to give yourself a little pep talk? In your heart of hearts, are you 100% committed to daily yoga at 6am + 4 HIIT workouts? Perhaps when you get real with yourself you realize that doing 2 workouts would be amazing. Start there. Set these on specific days and times in your calendar. Enrol a buddy. Create a sticker board to track your progress if you want to. But whatever you choose to do make sure its something you are committed to for a period of time—4 weeks would be a good place to start. Then, re-evaluate.

I look forward to hearing what this sparks in you!

Tomorrow we’ll look at what’s in your glass!

With love & light,
